- Overview: Lead modelling & resource estimation; manage a team of geologists, data analysts; interpret geological / drill hole / structural data; build 3D ore body / deposit models; validate and QAQC models; provide reports for management / investor / regulatory use.
- Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Geology / Geological Engineering (specialization / master’s in Economic Geology or Resource Estimation is a bonus); 7-10 years’ experience in modelling / resource estimation / exploration; software skills; strong technical & leadership skills; report writing; analysis; good English communication.
What they might prefer / desirable qualifications
- Education: BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences at minimum; often MSc or even PhD for more senior or special-purpose roles.
- Experience in working in similar climates / geology: desert environments, Arabian Shield geology, arid, remote area logistics.
- Field experience: drilling, mapping, sampling, core logging.
- Software skills: GIS, 3D modelling, resource estimation packages.
- Communication skills: reporting, writing technical reports, liaising with other disciplines (mining engineering, metallurgists, environment, regulators).
- Multidisciplinary work: working with geophysics, hydrology, environmental science.
- Sometimes ability to lead teams, or manage exploration projects.
- Levels range from ~2 years (junior / project roles) up to 10-15+ years (senior, section head, lead roles).
- Field & Mine Experience is important: open pit and/or underground mining geology. Knowing ore control, grade dilution, resource evaluation.
- Software / Modelling Skills: familiarity with industry tools (Surpac, Vulcan, Leapfrog, MicroMine, Datamine etc.), GIS, resource estimation methods.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): knowledge of and compliance with safety procedures; remote / desert work often part of job settings.
- Data & QA/QC: good data management, reporting, auditing geological data; ensuring model reliability.
- Reporting Standards: At senior levels, experience or ability to act as “Competent Person” under reporting frameworks (JORC or equivalent).
- Leadership & Teamwork: For more senior roles, ability to supervise geologist teams, contractors, coordinate cross-functional interplays (mine planning, operations, etc.).
